As part of the ongoing debate on entrepreneurship in Angola, lawyers Imisi de Almeida, Luís Zau and Lisa Neves shared their perspectives in the Jornal de Angola on the importance of startups in driving economic growth and the challenges they face in the country.

Luís Zau, Associate at FBL Advogados, highlights the importance of technical knowledge and a strong grasp of the business model by entrepreneurs. However, he acknowledges that, despite some progress, startups continue to face significant structural barriers.

Lisa Neves, also an Associate at FBL Advogados, reinforces the view that startups are engines of innovation and economic growth. For them to thrive, she argues, it is crucial to have a more supportive ecosystem, including an efficient regulatory environment and easier access to financing and tax incentives.

Imisi de Almeida, Trainee Lawyer at Abreu Advogados, argues that access to credit is vital for the growth of startups. For him, providing funding to small initiatives could be a strategic step towards boosting entrepreneurship in Angola.

The views of all three converge on the urgent need for structural reforms that encourage the emergence and consolidation of startups in Angola. More than just a trend, the professionals from FBL Advogados and Abreu Advogados see startups as a key driver for the country’s economic future — provided there is political will and adequate institutional support.
